Brick Wall: Tips to Expose the Uniqueness
As we all already know, the exposed brick wall can always turn into an attractive design element that boosts the appearance of your room with its distinct texture and look. There are so many brick wall ideas out there you can find, showing how exposing bricks on the wall may be a great idea for your upcoming remodel.
Exposing the Brick Wall
First of all, choose the wall you wish to expose and turn into a brick wall. Always be sure that there really is brick back there—drilling a pilot hole will help. Apart from that, make sure that the brick is the one you want the people to see; if not, stop and consult with a pro. Once you’re good to go, it’s time to prep the surface. Plastic sheeting is required for this phase. Properly prepping the surface will always help you to ensure the desired result.
When the preparation is done, generally you can already start working. Cut out all the trim if there’s any. And when you finally start “taking down” the wall surface to expose the bricks, never doing this carelessly. Rather, perform this step carefully and with calculated steps. Once you’ve got rid of the plaster from the wall, scrub the surface with wire brushes and vacuum. Sponge down the exposed brick and use mortar to fill in the gaps and holes in the bricks. The gaps along the trim should be filled with expanding foam. Excess sand and foam should be trimmed off. Clean and seal the brick wall and you’re good to go!
